The LauncherOne rocket experienced an 'anomaly,' according to Virgin Orbit

Virgin Orbit Holdings Inc.’s stock tumbled 22.3% before market open Tuesday after the private space company failed in its historic attempt to launch satellites into Earth orbit from the U.K.

When the plane was high above the Atlantic Ocean off the southwestern coast of Ireland LauncherOne was dropped from Cosmic Girl. The rocket then fired its stage-one engines, starting what was expected to be a journey into low Earth orbit to deploy its payload of nine satellites. At one point during the launch live stream, Virgin Orbit appeared unable to access telemetry data from LauncherOne.

“We will work tirelessly to understand the nature of the failure, make corrective actions, and return to orbit as soon as we have completed a full investigation and mission assurance process,” he added.
