When Foster returned, her phone had blown up. The photo, which was posted over Pride weekend in Toronto, had gone viral around the world. There were both positive and negative comments. She deleted the negative ones the best she could, but they were overwhelming. When the photo was used by the Fratelli d’ Italia, Nelson’s friends living in Europe let them know. They were disappointed but didn’t think there was anything they could do. That’s when the lawyers started reaching out to them and Foster, offering to sue the political party pro bono.
“I don’t even know how the tables got turned there, I’ve gone through all our previous emails and everything was about copyright,” Foster said in frustration.Advertisement 6Nelson and Foster said the communication from their lawyers was sparse throughout the whole process. The stinging point? The professional was never paid to take the photos. Foster had simply done it for a friend.
