Sabrina Patel says playing the ALCS marks her biggest appearance yet.
Violinist Sabrina Patel, 11, performed "God Bless America" during Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, Friday, Oct. 20, at Globe Life Field in Arlington.Friday’s crowd sung the national anthem themselves at game five of the ALCS at Globe Life Field. But they had help.
Patel, a violinist from Burlington, N.C., gave a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” as fans belted out portions of the lyrics ahead of the Rangers afternoon start against the Astros. She returned to the field for the seventh-inning stretch, performing “God Bless America,” which unfolded much the same way.For Patel, it was the biggest sporting event she has played yet. And that’s saying something. Last month, she performed at an event in her 16th state, Wisconsin.
Patel started taking lessons just before turning 4, inspired by a character who also plays the violin on the kids TV showWhen she isn’t playing for thousands at professional sporting events, the tween musician also performs at charity and college events, she says. Upcoming gigs of hers include Wake Forest University, University of South Carolina and University of Illinois.Asked what it was like to do the honors before a sell-out crowd of 41,519, she said, “It feels amazing.
