A new report from TTC CEO Rick Leary says there were 1,068 offences against customers last year compared to 734 in 2021 and 666 in 2019.

The TTC has become a place to fear in recent months with the increase of violent, often random crime that has led to a larger presence of authorities as a response. Among them are 50 new city-contracted security guards, 20 new community safety ambassadors, and 80 additional Toronto Police officers, the latter which is only sustainable until March, according to the city.

A Nanos survey earlier this month found about 71% of people in Ontario currently feel less safe using public transportation than they did in February 2022.In addition to the increasing violence, following the pandemic the TTC has been struggling with ridership, with Leary’s report saying it currently sits at 60% of pre-pandemic levels.Share this article in your social network
