JOHANNESBURG - Banks say they are ready to assist paying social security grants and salaries at the end of the month.

This is despite banking facilities and infrastructure being vandalised during the civil unrest in KZN and Gauteng.Over 1,400 ATMs and 269 bank branches were vandalised or destroyed in the unrest. Banks say they are expecting to service over 12.5-million social grants beneficiaries from 1 August and they are working with the South African Post Office and Sassa to ensure payments are made.
