It was another era (or two), and Seattle looked a lot different.

We looked through Getty Images' archives to find shots of Seattle and its inhabitants that we hadn't shared before. What we found were scenes of work, of rest, of visiting famous people and political leaders, and of a city that was just starting to come of age by mid-century in many ways. Today, scenes of the water, the mountains and several pieces of infrastructure look much the same. But the skyline has grown up, as have the neighborhoods -- once far more sparsely populated .Click through the images above to take a trip back in time and glimpse Seattle of an era largely before it earned the nickname Jet City.
