Vinicius Junior was shown a red card for pushing Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski during a La Liga match. The incident followed ongoing taunting from Valencia fans, reminiscent of previous racial abuse directed at the Brazilian winger.
Real Madrid 's Vinicius Junior was sent off during their 2-1 La Liga win against Valencia CF at Mestalla stadium on Friday. The Brazilian winger was dismissed after pushing goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the back of the neck during a heated exchange. Vinicius had been subjected to mocking by Valencia fans throughout the game, a year after he experienced racial abuse from the same supporters in a previous match.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged the difficult situation for Vinicius, stating, 'I think it is difficult (to be Vinicius), I'm not in his skin, but I think it's difficult.' Ancelotti defended Vinicius's overall performance and expressed hope that he would not be banned, adding, 'We're still convinced it was not worth a red card but a yellow, so we hope he is not banned.
