A Stratford police officer trying to arrest a man inside a stolen pickup truck at a gas bar was dragged through the parking lot and nearly run over, police say.

The officer got out his cruiser and approached a man as he was leaving the store at the gas bar and walking to the truck. The man pushed the officer to the ground, ran to the truck and got into the passenger seat, police said. A woman was in the driver’s seat. The officer was entangled with the man and not able to pull away. “ was dragged alongside the vehicle, through the parking lot before falling and nearly being run over,” police said.
The man was driving the pickup and had stopped for a train at about 4 p.m. in the area of Dublin, a community in Huron County about halfway between Stratford and Clinton. Officers tried to box in the vehicle a second time, but the man drove directly at a police vehicle, crashed into it and ran away, police said.
