She's come along way since taking plops of mud and layering them with leaves and twigs and flowers!
Riesman is no stranger to overcoming adversity. The single-room home in Rockwall she was raised in was equipped with nothing more than a microwave and an electric hot plate to cook on. Despite her family's limited resources, Riesman's creative side emerged early.
Riesman graduated high school early and scraped together what money she could to pursue a culinary education. At 17, she enrolled in a small technical school in Little Rock, Ark., which used outdated textbooks from the Culinary Institute of America and Le Cordon Bleu in a makeshift kitchen classroom.
"'Kitchen Confidential' had just come out and being toxic was glorified. I fell in love with this lifestyle, but this lifestyle was very aggressive toward me," Riesman said."These chefs in 2007, 2008, they were just ruthless and as a teenage girl it was a dangerous place to be. To find safety in the kitchen I’d follow around any sous chef who would show kindness and make myself useful to them.
