\u0027I am truly honoured to be recognized for my life’s work,\u0027 said Jeffrey Armstrong, who spent a decade translating the Bhagavad Gita.

Jeffrey Armstrong, founder of the Vedic Academy of Science and Arts, and author of The Bhagavad Gita Comes Alive has been given the Distinguished Indologist 2021 award byIn a ceremony held in Vancouver, India’s consul general presented the award to Armstrong, who used English words to describe a Sanskrit word in it’s true form to translate the Bhagavad Gita, which was written more than 5,000 years ago — although some say it was around 7,500 years ago.

Armstrong joins earlier recipients from Germany, China, Japan, U.K., and South Korea. He received a citation, gold-plated medallion, and US$20,000. However, many of the English words that were used in previous translations had Christian influence. For example, some of the words typically used in the translation of the Gita that Armstrong removes include: God, heaven, hell, soul and sin.Article content
