“We support measures aimed at improving public safety for people who use drugs, including harm-reduction services and decriminalization,” said VPD spokeswoman Const. Tania Visintin. “However, we remain committed in our position that drug trafficking will continue to be the subject of enforcement.”A 51-year-old man has been released from custody until a court appearance. One of the conditions of his release is to stay away from the Downtown Eastside.
Martin’s The Drugs Store was widely reported to have opened on Wednesday, the same day police said they opened an investigation. He told Postmedia News at the time that should his operation be busted, he planned to mount a Charter challenge of the federal prohibition against hard drugs.
