For the Canadian men’s national soccer team, the process should have began when it qualified for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico
The 36-year gap has been costly for Canada, but the performance here should be commended after defeats to Belgium, Croatia and Morocco at the Al Thumama Stadium here Thursday, are dissected.

“We have to be proud of what we’ve done, a part from us not getting any points,” Canada captain Atiba Hutchinson said. “We came out and played fearless, that’s what we really wanted to do and show what we were made of and I think that’s what we did. It will be vital Canada Soccer not drop the ball in the next four years and continue the process. The bar was set pretty low here, but needs to keep rising.
Four years from now, it won’t be good enough to play well and just score a goal, they have to keep the train moving. Whether head coach John Herdman is around or not, it’s irrelevant, this all falls on Canada Soccer and its executive.Article content
