Helicopter may be flying lower than normal in order to do an effective inspection of the hydro lines
It's that time of year again when aerial inspections of high-voltage transmission lines are underway over the Sudbury area.
Vale issued an announcement March 7 saying it will be inspecting the entire 69 kilovolt transmission system, which powers all of the company operations across Greater Sudbury, as part of a routine verification process. The inspections will take place until March 20 and will be conducted by helicopter. Power service will not be impacted in Vale's plants or in the community, said a company news release.
The statement from Vale also advised residents that the helicopter will be flying lower than some people are used to seeing. While every effort will be made not to fly over nearby residential areas, local residents may notice the low-flying helicopter, Vale said. Residents are advised that this is part of Vale’s normal activities and the low flight paths are necessary for the inspection to be effective. The flights will take place from 8 am to 6 pm, not necessarily every day, and may occur on weekends, said the company.
