The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality issued a warning on social media on 23 December 2024 informing the public that Uvongo Beach and the Lagoon in Durban were closed.

The municipality said they would provide updates regarding the situation. It said: “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and assure residents and visitors that updates will be provided as new developments arise. Your safety remains our top priority.”Only two beaches remain closed in Durban, according to the eThekwini Municipality. They are Anstey’s Beach and Reunion.
