Uvalde native Matthew McConaughey fights to improve school security
A famous Texan continues his fight to help make schools safer. KRLD's Susan Darwin has more.
Academy Award-winning actor and Uvalde native Matthew McConaughey is doing what he can to help Texas school districts secure federal money to help improve school security. McConaughey says there's a lot of money available, billions in fact, but many school districts don't have the resources to apply for the grants. He and his wife have launched the Greenlights Grant Initiative.
According to the Morning News, the initiative helps connect school districts with resources that can help properly apply for the grant money. The money comes from the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act approved by Congress last year and the money can be used to pay for mental health programs, safety upgrades on campuses and other security programs for schools.
