A former manager of Man Utd Ladies for 18 years received a prison sentence for offences against young girls.
Manchester United were unaware that the former coach of its women's team Geoff Konopka was a convicted paedophile when he was invited back to the club as a special guest last year.
United celebrated his career and featured him in the Old Trafford museum, while an article on their website in July of this year, under the heading 'Konopka's Reds', praised the club's early involvement in women's football, with United playing at Wembley under the coach in 1994 and 1996. United have now said they "will have no further connection" with Konopka and have been in touch with the relevant authorities to substantiate the facts "as a matter of urgency".
They detailed how Konopka made them feel uncomfortable when he was managing the side, with one claiming he entered changing rooms without knocking, an allegation he told the newspaper was a "pack of lies", insisting he always knocked before entering.
