US Secretary of State Blinken makes an unannounced trip to Ukraine. It is his second visit to the country since the start of Russia's invasion.
While in Kyiv, Blinken met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and visited a children's hospital.His trip comes as Ukraine has launched counteroffensives aimed at reclaiming Russian occupied areas in the south and northeast of the country. It also coincides with a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, hosted by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.Both Austin and Blinken visited Ukraine in late April.
During his Thursday trip, Blinken, accompanied by US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, visited the National Children's Specialized Hospital Ohmatdyt in Kyiv and met with children who were being treated there -- including some injured in the war.
