In a tweet a week earlier, Cruz asserted that adults can wear masks if they want to, but “leave our kids the hell alone.”That was part of a conservative outcry after the principal alerted parents about the outbreak. The letter said everyone else in that one classroom would have to wear face masks during the quarantine period while indoors.
Cardona called such laws “interference from state government messing up the strategies that are helping keep schools safe.”He didn’t call out Abbott by name, or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is seeking the GOP presidential nomination. But he alluded to them in criticizing leaders who in his view have pandered to voters by resisting expert advice on COVID-19.
