With a TSMC chip seeming found in a Huawei AI processor last month, the US Department of Commerce has taken action.
The United States has ordered the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to halt shipments of its advanced chips to vendors in China.The order comes a few weeks after the US Department of Commerce was found a TSMC chip in a Huawei AI-focused processor., the United States government is flexing its political muscle, by halting the distribution of advanced chips to vendors in China by TSMC.
With Huawei coming into the crosshairs of the US during the first Trump presidency, and remaining so during the Biden administration, it looks like Trump’s second term will only see pressure on Huawei intensify as it remains one of the top companies on America’s entity list. While it is yet to be determined whether the claims made by the US Department of Commerce are indeed true, it is believed that the AI processor in question is the Huawei Ascend 910B, which was released in 2022, with it also unclear how the component ended up there in the first place.
