An American citizen has been been killed in Sudan as violence, stemming from two generals competing for power, has gripped the country, claiming hundreds of lives.
Smoke rose in Khartoum, Sudan, Saturday as a paramilitary group said it had seized the presidential palace. amid escalating violence in the country’s capital and other places over the past week.
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and Sudan’s army have been battling for control of the country, with 5 million city residents and U.S. personnel caught in the crossfire. The brief ceasefire brought only marginal calm to some parts of the capital, Khartoum. But many residents took advantage to flee their homes where they had been trapped for days.
