Warning issued
Lancashire Police have launched an investigation following two separate distraction burglaries in Preston. The incidents occurred in the Ashton area of the city on Monday, July 10.
On each occasion a man is reported to have tricked his way into the homes of two elderly residents falsely claiming to be from the Water Board. After gaining access he stole small amounts of cash and property. Officers have urged residents in the area remain "extra vigilant". They have issued advice to help people themselves and their home.The warnings include encouraging older people to get into the habit of always locking their doors and by using a chain or spy hole and to insist on checking the identity of any caller who comes to the front door.Residents are reminded that if they feel threatened by a visitor to their home, to call call 999. Anything non-urgent can be reported to 101.
