Urgent care at WAVES vet clinic in Langford is returning during the day, five days a week.Now there is enough staffing to offer urgent care on Sunday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dr. Jon Katzman, emergency department mentor at WAVES says they aren’t offering all emergency services at the moment, instead focusing on urgent care. “We’re on an urgent care protocol at the moment,” Katzman told CHEK News. “We’ve created a nice little list that we’ve got up on Facebook and other social media platforms. It’s ranging from minor cuts and broken nails, to vomiting and diarrhea, generally non-life threatening things at the moment. As our team grows, then so will the cases and types of cases that we see.”
While the goal is to work up to offering emergency services 24/7, Katzman says there is still work to be done in order to secure enough staffing to do so. “Right now we’re growing our team, and as our team grows, so will our hours,” Katzman said. “It just depends on when we can get people into the country, because we’re looking internationally to bring in new team members to grow it as quickly as we can.”Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.
