Students at Nottingham College's flagship campus in Canal Street in the city centre are being kept inside as a precaution following a 'serious assault' outside. Officials say the decision to keep students inside has been taken as a 'measure of safety'.

The precinct directly outside the front entrance to the campus was cordoned off by police just after 11.30am on Thursday, February 2. A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire College said they are liaising with officers. A young male has been taken to hospital and is receiving treatment following the attack, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed. A spokesperson for the Nottinghamshire College said: “We are aware of a police incident near to the front entrance of our City Hub campus. In line with safety procedures the building has been secured and students are being kept inside, for now, to allow the Police to conduct their investigation. We are liaising directly with the Police and will provide access to CCTV footage as required.”

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Canal Street, Nottingham, at 11.32am today following reports of a serious assault. A young male has been taken to hospital and is receiving treatment. A scene is in place while officers investigate the incident. Witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting incident 244 of 2 February 2023.”
