Toyota SA has revealed updates to the popular GR Yaris, including a more powerful engine and a new automatic transmission. The hot hatch will launch in South Africa in March 2025.

Toyota SA has showcased an exciting line-up of SA-bound vehicles at the 2025 State of the Motoring Industry event, and among them is the highly anticipated automatic GR Yaris. The outgoing GR Yaris is known for its compact yet powerful 1.6-litre turbo-triple, which, Toyota claims, is the world’s most powerful three-cylinder engine. Endowed with 198kW and 360Nm of torque, the GR Yaris accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 5.3s, before topping out at 230km/h.

The GR Yaris has received significant updates. The turbocharged 1.6-litre engine has been upgraded with lightweight pistons, improved direct injection pressure and optimised mapping, resulting in increased outputs of 210kW and 400Nm. A new single-clutch Direct Automatic Transmission replaces the manual gearbox. The vehicle also benefits from Vehicle Stability Control and a limited-slip differential for improved handling.

The updated GR Yaris is slated to launch in South Africa in March. Pricing and additional performance specifications will be revealed closer to the launch date. The post Updated Toyota GR Yaris: SA Launch Date Confirmed! appeared first on CAR Magazine.
