Columbus text to 911 service temporarily down, emergency calls unaffected
The text to 911 service for Columbus emergency dispatchers has been restored after it became unavailable for several hours Thursday afternoon due to a third-party vendor issue, the Department of Public Safety said.
The service, which the city announced around 11 a.m. had went down, allows residents to text 911 instead of calling.The Department of Public Safety said the issue appeared to be with the third-party vendor service and not with the Columbus Emergency Communications Center. After the vendor worked to resolve the issue, the city announced around 4 p.m. that it had become operational again.bbruner@dispatch.
