Health unions have recommended that the Government’s pay offer of a 5% increase should be implemented, according to a joint statement from members of the NHS Staff Council The deal covers all nurses, paramedics and other non-medical NHS staff in England

NHS staff in England will get a 5 per cent pay rise and a one-off payment after a deal with the Government aimed at ending strike action was signed off by the NHS Staff Council.

Unison, GMB, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and the Royal College of Midwives were among those who voted to accept the offer. The union – representing mainly ambulance workers and junior health staff – said the pay deal will not solve understaffing issues so it will be “escalating strike action” to force the Government to listen.

The union added that the decision to fight for a better offer has driven up membership and that there will be more ballots for NHS workers to join the strike.
