🔴 Unions threaten 6 more ambulance strikes with only 'life and limb' cover for tomorrow's walkout 💬 “We’ve had one strike in the past two months, members want to see that increase rapidly,” a union source told theipaper
More than 10,000 workers, including paramedics, 999 call handlers and emergency medical technicians , from the GMB and Unison unions in England and Wales are set to walk off the job on Wednesday in a dispute over pay and conditions.
A third strike by ambulance workers is already scheduled to go ahead on Monday 23 January, with nurses due to walk out next Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 January. Members of the armed forces and private providers will be once again drafted in to help cover, as was the case during the first strike day on 21 December.
Unison said these workers will stagger their strike action to ensure “life-threatening” calls are answered. Staff in Newham will walk off the job between 11am and 5pm, while Waterloo call handlers will walk out between 5pm and 11pm.
