Man sentenced on two counts of assault, possession of a .410 bolt action shotgun and a 12-gauge pump shotgun wthout a licence, and pointing a firearm
The get-together also landed Robert Digby in a Sault Ste. Marie courtroom Thursday where he pleaded guilty to four charges stemming from incidents that occurred on Feb. 11-12.
Ontario Court Justice John Condon heard police had responded to a report of a man with a firearm, who had been involved in a dispute with two women at his Nils Bay Road home. The women went to the complainant's home and when he heard what had happened, the trio headed back to Digby's place. Digby picked up the firearm, but it wasn't pointed at the other man and "had no shells in it," he told the judge.
The defence conceded there were problems between the couple, but she had voluntarily left her family in North Bay and moved here.Digby said he had tried to break up with the woman, but she wouldn't leave.He told the judge he has been taking counselling and "doing everything I can do" since the incident.
