The incident is just the latest in a series of antisemitic incidents in schools, said Andrea Freedman, the president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa. She traces an increase in incidents to May 2021. At the time, there was an escalation of hostilities in Gaza. “Parents are not equipped to handle this. They see their children being harmed, but don’t necessarily have the advocacy tools,” she said.
