“We sit on Zoom meetings from council buildings in Liverpool; meanwhile our Ukrainian counterparts are sat in a bunker' Eurovision planners and commentators talk to benjaminbutter about the difficulties of organising from a warzone

This is Ukraine’s party, being held at our house, and that responsibility has taken a toll on the organisers to make the war-torn nation proud.

“It’s been a really emotional experience to see what they’re going through. Sometimes we had to reschedule meetings because they’ve been shelled or are under threat.“We’ll never do anything like this again, in these circumstances. It’s history, really. These are unique circumstances in which Eurovision is taking place and I just hope we are delivering for Ukraine.”

Pupils at Liverpool’s schools have been learning Ukrainian, with students from Sumy State University, which is twinned with the University of Liverpool, helping a local choir to learn words and phrases for a special concert.
