U.S. Army soldiers conduct live fire testing of early versions of the Army Tactical Missile System at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., on Dec. 14, 2021. | John Hamilton/U.S. Army/APThe Ukrainian military on Tuesday used U.S.-supplied longer-range missiles to strike nine Russian helicopters in eastern Ukraine, after Washington secretly shipped the weapons in recent weeks.
President Joe Biden had been hesitant to deliver the Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, for fear of escalating the conflict. The decision also comes as the administration has grown concerned about a Russian buildup of troops and equipment for a fall offensive, in what could be the largest Russian movement in months.
