Ukraine Seeks South African Help in Recovering 20,000 Abducted Children

Ukraine is calling on South Africa to assist in retrieving an estimated 20,000 children who were allegedly abducted and forced into military training by Russia. Legal expert Kateryna Rashevska is lobbying South African leaders to engage with Russia to release these children.

Ukraine has appealed to South Africa for assistance in the recovery of approximately 20,000 children who were allegedly abducted and militarized by Russia . The children, ranging in age from two months to 17 years old, were taken from Crimea in 2014 and other areas since the beginning of the ongoing conflict in February 2022.

Legal expert Kateryna Rashevska from the Ukrainian NGO Regional Centre for Human Rights is urging South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, and the ANC to engage with Russia to resolve this issue
