12:02:03Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about the possibility of a fresh round of Russian sanctions.
"It might be a surprise for you but it is not a surprise for us. We were preparing for a while. This visit was very timely and very important in terms of war." Vadym Prystaiko, the Ukrainian ambassador to the UK, has spoken to Sky News this morning following Boris Johnson's surprise visit to Kyiv on Saturday.
"But what is more important is why he came and the results he brought – the assistance that Ukraine will get out of it."He said it is likely that Russia is hoping to have a"great victory" for their Victory Day on 9 May. This is a national holiday which commemorates the surrender of The Greater German Reich in 1945.
"Let An Easter truce start. But not to rearm and resume combat but a truce to reach peace through real negotiations," he said. He said:"Two people were killed, there are casualties. As you can see, the Russian army continues to 'fight' with the civilian population, because it has no victories at the front."
The latest reported mass grave was identified in a ditch near a petrol station in the Buzova village, according to head of the Dmytrivka settlement, Taras Didych."Now we are returning to life but during the occupation we had our 'hotspots', many civilians died," Didych said.Jens Stoltenberg: NATO 'is in the midst of a fundamental transformation'
"This is part of the reset which we have to make, which is to move from tripwire deterrence to something which is more about deterrence by denial or defence. This is already in process. We have to ensure that we continue to be able, in a more dangerous world, to protect and defend all NATO allies."Boris Johnson yesterday went for a walk in the Ukrainian capital with Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his surprise visit to Kyiv.
She described Russian President Vladimir Putin as the"main war criminal of the 21st century," but explained he has some immunity from prosecution due to his position.
