Lord Cameron is also understood to have warned an incursion also risks the lives of dozens of Israeli hostages still believed to be in Gaza
Deputy foreign secretary Andrew Mitchell said he has been “clear” that “there would have to be a plan which respected international humanitarian law and we have not yet seen such a plan”., where tens of thousands of civilians are sheltering following offensives across the rest of Gaza, will make it harder for Tel Aviv to justify that its forces’ actions are in line with international law, both in context of public opinion and the International Criminal Court.
As well as warning of the devastating consequences for civilians, Lord Cameron and UK diplomats are also understood to have cautioned that an incursion also risks the lives of dozens of Israeli hostages still believed to be in Gaza.
Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy questioned whether the Government believed an assault on Rafah could be “a clear risk of a serious breach of humanitarian law”, something which would trigger a ban on arms exports.“Now, more than ever, we need an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages and unimpeded aid to Gaza,” Mr Lammy told MPs.
