Temperatures will climb this weekend - but don't get too excited yet
Brits look set to face a pleasant weekend with temperatures warming up across the country. The Met Office says today should be warmer than Friday for many people in the UK.
The Met Office's latest three-month outlook, which is used by Government for contingency planning, says the chance of a hot summer is 'higher than normal but similar to recent years'. It adds that 'this brings an increased likelihood of heatwaves'. It's too soon for forecasters to give the exact temperatures Brits could see, but a heatwave must hit a certain temperature for three consecutive days - ranging between 28C in London to 25C in many northern and coastal areas. June is set to begin with warm, sunny weather for many, but temperatures are not yet close to those heatwave figures.
Temperatures could hit 20C in Cardiff and Edinburgh, 19C in London, 18C in Birmingham and 17C in Belfast. Most areas are expected to remain dry tonight, with clear spells overnight that could feel chilly.
