Thursday following a series of controversies and resignations of his high-profile officials.
Speaking in London Thursday, Johnson said"it is clearly now the will of the parliamentary Conservative Party that there should be a new leader and a new prime minister." Johnson said. He also noted that"As we have seen at Westminster, the herd instinct is powerful and when the herd moves, it moves and my friends in politics no one is remotely indispensable."
Johnson was voted into the PM spot by fellow Conservative Party members in 2019 after the resignation of former PM Theresa May amid Britain's exit from the European Union. Conservatives then won their largest House of Commons majority in nearly 40 years in the 2019 general election. He's now the third consecutive British PM to resign, after May and David Cameron in 2016.
