British house prices jumped unexpectedly in February, potentially reflecting improvements in consumer confidence and the mortgage market, lender Halifax said on Tuesday, but the overall trend remained downwards.
A Reuters poll of economists had pointed to a 0.3% drop on the month. Most other gauges of the housing market are yet to show a similar improvement after a recent slide in house prices from highs hit following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
