UEFA Champions LeagueAtletico Madrid advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after defeating Manchester United 2-1 on aggregate.
The Spanish side took the lead five minutes before halftime, as Griezmann curled a delightful cross into the box for Lodi to connect with and score. In the 66th minute, Fernandes drilled a cross to the back post for Cristiano Ronaldo to attack, but the ball had too much pace on it for the Portuguese to reach it.
Ajax had a decent chance in the 25th minute. The ball dropped to Steven Berghuis following a teasing Dusan Tadic cross, but he lost his balance when striking at goal from the edge of the box, and his effort went well over the Benfica crossbar. Five minutes after half-time Tadic turned Nicolas Otamendi before firing his effort over the bar. A diagonal ball by Daley Blind then almost found Haller in space just inside the box but the Ajax striker just couldn't get on the end of it as the chance went begging.
