The sister of Professor Bongani Mayosi, the late Dean of Health Sciences at UCT who took his own life in July 2018, has penned a scathing letter to VC Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng about a Twitter post in which she equated Mayosi's name with suicide.
Phakeng is under increasing pressure after a late-night decision by the UCT Council on Saturday to appoint a retired judge and independent panel to probe allegations of misconduct against her.
Last week, she sought support on Twitter and made reference to her mental health in a number of posts. In one reply she stated she"almost went the Mayosi route in 2020". She added:"Thank God for my psychiatric treatment which I'm still on. I am stronger now."Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
