If you've recently had a glass of wine you thought was smoky beyond design, you're not alone. Even a professional tells us, 'I know that I've encountered wines in the bottle and thought, 'wow this is an ashtray. How did it make it this far?''

Crews first took note of the smoke damage problem after the devastating Mendocino Complex fire in 2018, and began studying better techniques to identify which grapes contained so-called,"smoke taint.
