New numbers on the market shares of ride-for-hire industries were made public at a council meeting on Tuesday. While Coon’s presentation talked about multiple “TNCs” or transportation network companies, a city spokesperson clarified that only one rideshare company is licensed and operating in Calgary as of Jan. 1 of this year.Article contentCity-issued plates, dispatch limitations for taxis He said part of the problem for his industry is that there’s really no limit on the number of rideshare drivers that can operate in the city, but cab companies are limited by city-issued plates. The city said 4,710 individuals are licensed to operate as an Uber driver.
