Companies like Isinkwe Energies offer LPG conversion kits for popular cars, costing around R33,293 including installation and VAT. \\\Ride-hailing drivers are highly susceptible to fuel price fluctuations, which have been high in South Africa . With petrol prices expected to rise further in February 2025, drivers face squeezed margins.
\\\Although the upfront cost of converting to LPG is substantial, LPG fuel prices are significantly lower than petrol. In January 2025, unleaded 95 petrol cost R21.59 per litre inland and R20.80 per litre at the coast, while LPG prices are lower. \\\MyBroadband analyzed potential monthly fuel savings for Uber drivers in Gauteng and coastal regions based on different average monthly travel distances. Drivers covering 20,000km to 80,000km annually could save between nearly R1,000 and R2,000 per month in Gauteng. Coastal drivers see smaller savings due to lower petrol prices and higher LPG prices.
