U.S. Soccer Federation president Carlos Cordeiro resigned Thursday night in the face of a fierce backlash against the federation’s defense in a pay-discrimination lawsuit against it by the U.S. women’s national team.
Cordeiro, who had been president for just over two years but had worked as a federation volunteer for 13 years, announced in a letter on Twitter just after 9 p.m. ET that he would step down immediately.
