Tehran’s threat to ramp up its nuclear program leaves Europe in a difficult position: Find a way to keep trade flowing with Iran or re-impose sanctions and kill the deal

BRUSSELS—European governments rejected Iran’s 60-day ultimatum to help it circumvent U.S. sanctions, saying Thursday they viewed Iran’s threat to abandon some of its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal with “great concern.”

However, the ultimatum leaves Europe with few options to save the deal, given that months of efforts by EU officials to provide relief to U.S. sanctions that have crippled Iran’s economy have largely come to nothing.
