KIRO TV, citing South Whidbey Fire, is reporting that one person has died. No other details — including the conditions of the other occupants — were immediately available. South Whidbey Fire and EMS were also on scene, but said that the coast guard was in command of the incident and co-ordinating search efforts of the debris field.
Whidbey Island and Mutiny Bay are located southeast of Vancouver Island in Puget Sound, about 64 kilometres northwest of Seattle.
