Border states have yet to see an influx of gluttonous hogs, but they’re still on the alert, as the beasts spread

We apologize, but this video has failed to load. The border states — North Dakota, Minnesota, Idaho and Montana — are all on the alert for wild pigs that might cross from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. A handful of other states have already had wild pigs invade, notably Colorado and Utah, though these perhaps migrated from southern U.S. states, or were imported illegally.

“During that time, a lot of experts told farmers to cross their boars with domestic pigs, which are larger and reproduce more. Unfortunately, that created ‘super pigs,’ because it supercharged their size and reproduction,” Brook told What makes these pigs so hard to deal with isn’t just their rapid reproduction, although that is a factor too, but the fact that they are fairly intelligent, and any method of extermination can’t pick away at a group of them — a sounder, it’s called — piecemeal. If you want the pigs to not learn to avoid traps or humans, the whole sounder needs to be killed off at once.
