Football Fever | ‘Tyson’ relishing return of fans to the stadiums

When he signed for Orlando Pirates last year, Thulani Hlatshwayo accomplished a lifelong dream.

Hlatshwayo has featured in 45 games in all competitions for Pirates in the past two seasons. With the return of fans to the stadium on the cards, the 31-year-old said he was looking forward to playing in front of one particular special fan.I told everyone that the first person who is going to get a ticket is my mother. I used to watch the derby with her. This is something I have had in my mind for a long time and I have been manifesting.

The former Bidvest Wits skipper said this would be a welcomed development. “I personally miss the fans, I really do. This is my second season at Pirates and I have never played in front of fans. It is something that any player would want,” Hlatshwayo said.“During the hard lockdown we had to train at home by ourselves. Mentally, it was not easy. We have gotten used to playing in front of empty stadiums now and we got used to playing all by ourselves.
