Two women were tragically killed in separate stabbing incidents in the Western Cape on Saturday, December 14, allegedly at the hands of their respective partners. Both men have been arrested, with police stating that arguments preceded the violent attacks. The first incident occurred in Montagu, where 24-year-old Shimoné Fluks was fatally stabbed in her family home on Flux Street.
Provincial police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi told News24 that the police arrived on the scene just after 5:30 am to find Fluks with a stab wound to her neck. 'Reports suggested she ran into a nearby premises, after she sustained the stab wound, where she then collapsed,' Swartbooi said. 'The victim was declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is believed to be an argument.' News24 reported that the suspect appeared in the Montagu Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 17, on a charge of murder. Swartbooi confirmed, 'The suspect will remain in custody. The case has been postponed for bail information.' Fluks had reportedly taken out an interdict against the suspect after prior incidents of violence, highlighting a chilling escalation that ultimately led to her death. The second incident took place in Hazendal, Brackenfell, where a 35-year-old woman was fatally stabbed during an altercation with her partner. Captain FC van Wyk, speaking to News24, explained that the couple had been fighting in the parking area of the residence they shared. ‘Two other males, who tried to stop the fight, were injured and transported by ambulance to hospital,’ said Van Wyk. The suspect was arrested and will appear in court once charges have been filed. These tragic cases serve as yet another stark reminder of the pervasive gender-based violence (GBV) crisis gripping South Africa. Authorities are continuing their investigations into both incidents
