Attendees of a downtown Toronto park opening were treated to not one but two wedding ceremonies on a rainy Friday afternoon, fitting for the theme of the park.
Billed as an “urban oasis” Love Park is on 8,100 metres of land at the corner of Queens Quay West and York Street — previously home to York-Bay-Yonge eastbound off-ramp of the Gardiner Expressway which was removed in 2016. It’s a welcome sight to locals who were hoping for more park space in the area.
A stakeholder advisory committee was established in 2019 followed by a design phase in 2020 with construction starting in 2021. Montreal-based architect CCxA collaborated with landscape architecture firm gh3* to design the park, the former behind Sugar Beach, HTO Park, and Berczy Park. The park also features a large pathway with room for pop-up markets and events and nine bronze-cast Canadian animals as well as movable tables and chairs funded by Waterfront BIA.
