A bystander who had entered the water to help the teens was also rescued.

Kevin Fourie, station commander of the National Sea Rescue Institute in Rocky Bay, said they had received a call for assistance at around midday on Saturday.An NSRI rescue team joined local lifeguards to assist the two teenagers.

"On arrival on the scene, we found local dive charter owner Gareth Salmond had used an NSRI pink rescue buoy [stationed at the beach] to rescue a male and a female, aged in their late teens. They are believed to be on holiday in the area." Fourie said a bystander who had entered the water to help the teens was also rescued by Salmond after encountering trouble.
